Art for Nature
Project Lead
Funding: Civil Society Dialogue Program (co-financed by the Republic of Türkiye and the European Union)
Duration: February 2016 – February 2017
The project aimed to inspire greater interest in nature conservation by bringing together the creative power of artists with the richness of nature. The project was developed through collaboration between the Nature Conservation Centre (DKM) and the Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA) in the United Kingdom. As part of the project, 30 artists were invited to work in the Anatolian sweetgum forests (Liquidambar orientalis)—an ecosystem unique to Türkiye and one of the country’s most valuable natural habitats. Four experienced artists from SWLA and young Turkish artists from various artistic disciplines came together for an intensive creative residency. During a single week, the artists produced more than 400 works using diverse artistic techniques, creating a unique dialogue between art and nature.
Following the completion of the project, the artworks were compiled in a publication titled Art in the Sweetgum Forests showcasing different perspectives on human engagement with nature. The publication is available here.
