Summary Of Project:

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline (BTC) is an 1800km oil pipeline connecting the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil field in the Caspian Sea via Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and Ceyhan, a port on the Mediterranean coast in Turkey, via Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

DKM staff provided ecological assistance for the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline Company’s Environmental Investment Programme (BTC-EIP), which disbursed 2.4 million euros for conservation projects, and implemented the biorestoration phase of the pipeline construction.

16 projects were selected and ranged from species conservation (Mediterranean Monk Seal, Green Sea Turtle, Caucasian Black Grouse), to ecosystem conservation (Ardahan Forests, Yumurtalık Lagoons, Erzurum and Ekşisu Wetlands) and strategic prioritisation for conservation projects (Gap Analysis, Important Bird Areas, Important Plant Areas).
