Türkiye's Climate Envoys Movement is preparing the COP28 Declaration
Türkiye's Climate Envoys Movement are coming together to play an effective role in the fight against climate change. The Climate Envoys Camp, organised by the Directorate of Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change in cooperation with UNICEF Türkiye and Nature Conservation Center (DKM), was held in Bursa between 3-6 November 2023.
This camp was attended by 135 young Climate Envoys from each university all over Türkiye. Climate Envoys received trainings and carried out group work in order to gain knowledge on climate change and develop solution-oriented approaches.
The trainings started with "Scientific Basics of Climate Change" by Dr. Uğur Zeydanlı, Head of the Board of DKM, followed by "Global and National Climate Policies" by Orhan Solak, Deputy Director of the Directorate, and finally ended with the "Green Entrepreneurship Session" led by Nuray Çaltı, Nature Education Programme Assistant of DKM.
On the second day, young people came together under group names that raised awareness on the protection of endangered species in group activities facilitated by DKM. The groups started to prepare a statement for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations held in the United Arab Emirates on 30 November-13 December 2023. It was aimed that this statement would also be useful for the young people who will attend COP28 representing Türkiye's Climate Envoys Movement. In addition, each Climate Envoy, representing their universities, committed to at least one action that they aim to realise in 2024 in the field of combating climate change.
This event is considered as an important step to increase the awareness of young people on climate change and contribute to climate action. Türkiye's Climate Envoys have been actively working with the guidance of the Directorate of Climate Change, UNICEF Türkiye and DKM since 2021 to play an effective role at national and international level in the fight against climate change.
