Date: January 2017 - December 2017

Place: Sapanca Lake Basin

Role Of DKM: Project Implementation

Summary Of Project:

This program aims to undertake activities in Sapanca Forests for water retention as well as production and distribution of fundamental knowledge and approach in order to achieve sustainability.

The program has three main pillars: In the first of these pillars, DKM aims to enhance “forest water management” by developing “forest water function” in forest areas of Western Blacksea Region of Turkey with specific activities in Sapanca Forests. A national workshop will be organized to develop the forest water function. The program team will create water related ecosystem services maps in Sapanca Forests in a participatory way and then define forests optimal structures with water retention targets. The program will record and store the information produced during the key activities for future use and disseminate lessons learned from the action. Publication of a booklet will be part of these activities. A flood-landslide feasibility plan for Sapanca Forests will be prepared as a part of the second work package to identify implementation sites for water retention targets. The intervention plans will be implemented and water retention will be achieved in short-term. Lastly, monitoring and evaluation system of the project will be defined and implemented to measure the impact of the action in terms of water retention and improvement of ecosystem services.
