Summary Of Project:

The project, Sustainable Land Management (SLM) and Climate-Friendly Agriculture, executed by UNFAO, is currently under implementation in the provinces of Konya and Karaman in Central Anatolia, Turkey. Ecosystems in these provinces are threatened by land degradation, deforestation, intensive unsustainable agricultural practices and climate change. The project aims to improve sustainability of agriculture, pasture and forest uses in these threatened ecosystems through adoption of low-carbon technologies with benefits for climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation as well as farm and forest productivity.

As the Project partner DKM will develop a biodiversity monitoring concept for the area of the above project with special focus on pilot sites. This work will be accompanied by capacity building activities for project beneficiaries – as additional objective - through organization/delivery of the related training and workshop, multiple meetings, as well as preparation of educational materials. Produced outputs and outcomes will contribute to biodiversity upscaling and mainstreaming at regional and national level. Biodiversity upscaling and mainstreaming will support sustainable integration of conservation aspects in planning and implementation of various land uses. Moreover, the biodiversity monitoring concept will complement the biodiversity management plan that is being implemented in the region with the baseline data already collected during the project implementation.
