Place: Ankara

Summary Of Project:

The “Building Resilient City Through Empowering Women” Project funded within the context of the Town Twinning Action Between Turkey and the EU Grant Scheme is being implemented by Çankaya Municipality with the technical support of Nature Conservation Centre Foundation and in partnership with Frankfurt Municipality and the Association of Women Mukhtars. The overall goal of the project is to combat climate change in urban areas through the adaptation of urban public spaces to climate change. The project specifically targets women and aims to train women on climate change thus making women pioneers in combatting climate change and providing an enabling environment where women are effectively integrated into local climate change policies and decision-making mechanisms.

Within the context of the project, Nature Conservation Centre provided trainings to more than 200 women in the topics of anthropogenic climate change, impacts of climate change and individual efforts in combatting climate change. Training contents were tailored based on the target audience. Trainings were provided to kindergarten teachers working in the kindergartens of Çankaya Municipality. These trainings were more focused on how teachers can teach the subject of climate change to pre-school children using different methods and games. Trainings were also provided to the instructors and managers of Çankaya Municipality’s Public Training Centres as well as staff working in the Directorates of Parks and Gardens, Environmental Protection and Control and the Services for Women and Family. Training materials and booklets were also prepared and published.
