Project Summary
The project was founded on the principle that every drop of water counts as freshwater resources become increasingly scarce. The programme supports innovative water resource management initiatives across Eastern Europe and Asia. As part of this programme, DKM implemented pioneering initiatives to improve water efficiency and promote sustainable agricultural practices by (i) Piloting and implementing crop-specific irrigation techniques, (ii) Supporting local communities in adopting more efficient irrigation systems and (iii) Promoting the production and use of environmentally friendly organic fertilizers.

The project focused on drought-prone regions, particularly the Konya Basin and Southeastern Anatolia, where agricultural production places significant pressure on limited water resources and irrigation practices are often inefficient.

The project's primary objectives were to conserve water by replacing the traditional furrow irrigation method, widely used in Kahta and its surrounding areas, with more efficient irrigation techniques, and to encourage the production and use of organic fertilizers as part of sustainable agricultural practices.

The project successfully piloted and demonstrated crop-specific, water-efficient irrigation techniques in the region. It also promoted the production and wider adoption of organic fertilizers among local farmers, contributing to more sustainable water use and environmentally responsible agricultural production.
