Biodiversity-Focused Post-Fire Ecosystem Restoration Guide
Within the scope of the “Restoration of Forest and Maquis Ecosystems After Fires in Muğla Province” project, which was carried out with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the General Directorate of Forestry, and in cooperation with the Nature Conservation Center (DKM), the “Post-Fire Biodiversity Focused Ecosystem Restoration Guide” was prepared. The guide includes information such as the effects of fires on Mediterranean ecosystems, natural post-fire recovery dynamics in Mediterranean ecosystems, post-fire restoration practices, interventions and biodiversity, habitat needs of different living groups, results of practices in terms of biodiversity and implementation recommendations, as well as recommendations according to species groups. This guide is the first comprehensive study in our country on biodiversity-based post-fire restoration.
Within the scope of the project, a training was organized in the Muğla Regional Directorate and field work was carried out in Marmaris. The training was attended by the Muğla Forest Regional Director Salim Karabulut, Regional Deputy Directors Ersen Çetin and Adnan Güller, FAO and DKM officials, relevant Branch Managers and technical staff from the Marmaris and Köyceğiz Forest Enterprise Directorates, which were selected as pilot regions. Studies were carried out in the training to use and develop the guide.
