The “Nature and Cities” Project funded by the Civil Society Dialogue Between EU and Turkey Grant Scheme and implemented by Nature Conservation Centre in partnership with Eurosite (Netherlands), Çankaya Municipality and BEIN IZ TV aims to enhance dialogue, know-how transfer and cooperation between CSOs of Turkey and Netherlands on environment and sustainable development within the scope of EU acquis and policies on environment, especially on nature-based solutions and green infrastructure in urban areas. Accordingly, the project aims to achieve its goals through:
- Improved knowledge of nature based solutions and green infrastructure in Turkey through the experience of EU member states (the Netherlands).
- Enhanced dialogue and cooperation between Turkish stakeholders from various sectors to promote nature based solutions and green infrastructure in cities.
- Joint agreements signed between CSOs in Turkey and the Netherlands for sustainable and long-term cooperation on nature based solutions and green infrastructure in cities.
- Awareness raising in Turkey and the Netherlands on nature based solutions and green infrastructure, and importance of EU membership of Turkey.
Within the context of the project, study tours have been realised in both Turkey and the Netherlands in order to exchange good practices and experiences on nature based solutions and green infrastructure. Nature Conservation Centre has officially become a member of Eurosite within the context of the project in order to achieve sustainable and long-term cooperation. A documentary on nature based solutions and green infrastructure has been prepared and the EU’s Commission’s Strategy on Green Infrastructure has been translated into Turkish.
In the ongoing process, mapping and assessment of natural ecosystems and ecosystem services in Ankara will be realised. Efforts to establish a platform on nature based solutions and green infrastructure will continue. A short film will be produced. An exhibition on Turkey’s natural values will be organised in the Netherlands. Finally, Nature Conservation Centre will also become a member of the Nature 4 Cities Network.
