Land and Water
The work of nature conservation and environmental NGOs is traditionally focused on species and ecosystems. However, many of the environmental problems these species and ecosystems face originate from other sectors and other localities. Thus agriculture, energy, mining and urbanisation, together with their interactions with a variety of social and economic dynamics, are topics which need to be considered part of nature conservation solutions.
The main areas where these sectors intersect with nature conservation are land use, soil and water protection. Thus under this theme, continuing with nature conservation as the main tool, DKM work embraces agriculture, rural development and energy.
DKM works to develop better management systems for the conservation of soil and water, to establish good practices and design integrated solutions which take into account environmental, economic and social forces.
